E3 2011 – Official Eternity Vault Gameplay Video

BioWare has just released the official Eternity Vault gameplay video that we’ve caught glimpses of on the web and that was shown behind closed-doors here at E3.

This trailer provides a beautiful, hi-res look at the environments and action, and I can tell you that seeing it in person is even more awe-inspiring. It looks like BioWare is going to provide true, best-in-class raiding, er, Operating!

E3 2011 – New Cinematic Trailer Revealed: Return

Today as part of Day 0 of E3 2011, BioWare released an all-new, if highly anticipated, cinematic trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic!

There was some speculation in the weeks leading up to the event that there would be a new cinematic, however there were skeptics (myself included) that didn’t think they’d do another just yet. But, I’ve never been happier to be wrong.

But this isn’t just any old awesome cinematic trailer. This is the actual intro trailer that will play when we log into the game for the first time!

As was the case for the previous two cinematic trailers (Deceived, and Hope,) Blur Studios handled the production duties for this one. I know I’m not alone when I say that I would pay good money to see an entire Star Wars movie made by Blur.

Anyway, no words I can write will do justice for what you will see below. Just click and watch!

Ask A Jedi At E3 2011!

With E3 just days away (and some details and info already starting to emerge,) convention season is about to kick off in a big way for fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic!

And what would “Ask” A Jedi be if we didn’t have the answers? With that in mind, we’re packing up our bags and headed off to tinseltown for some smash-mouth coverage of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3!

Ask A Jedi launched exactly one year ago during E3 2010 with an exclusive interview with James Ohlen, and we intend to hit the show hard again this year! We’ve got an interview slot set up, a playtime slot set up, and are geared up and fully equipped to capture everything we can while at the show. +20 to our Multimedia stat!

E3 promises to be a big show for fans of TOR, and while we may not get something as monumental like a release date, it seems as though there will be no shortage of new and cool info coming out of it.

FSS 2011: Hands-On the Alderaan Civil War Warzone; Marauder & Gunslinger

Let me start out by saying this right away: I’m not an organized PvPer. I love open-world, chance encounters however I rarely participate in structured matches of any kind. So I don’t find it necessary to work on specializing my gear or character build for this purpose.

With that said, after having gotten my first taste of PvP in Star Wars: The Old Republic, I can’t wait to dive into it when the live game finally comes launches.

It could just be the fact that its freaking’ Star Wars, and there are lightsabers swinging and blaster bolts firing in all directions. Or maybe it’s the fact that it felt so different from what I’ve experienced in the past. This wasn’t one-shot, stun-lock bunny-hop combat. There was strategy you could use and tactics you could apply. And the fights lasted longer than 30 seconds!

Read on to find out why I might be spending a lot more time PvPing when TOR finally ships.

FSS 2011: Damion Schubert Video Q&A

Earlier this week at the Fan Site Summit, each site in attendance got to list their top 3 preferences for a one-on-one Q&A session with one of the developers working on Star Wars™: The Old Republic™

Lucky for us, we got our first choice!

Lead Systems Designer Damion Schubert originally answered a few questions on the Crew Skills system for us back in February, and due to the response and feedback from all of our readers, we really wanted to do a followup!

During our interview at the Fan Site Summit, some of the topics we covered included:

  • The Archeology gathering skill
  • Crafting stats to improve your chance to crate
  • Breaking items down into components to gain resources
  • Design inspiration for crafted items
  • More than one companion on a mission?
  • Rare resources vs. obscure crafting locations
  • Quality of items
  • Boss loot tables
  • … and more!

Here at Ask A Jedi, we couldn’t be more excited for the Crew Skills system. We think it’s a truly innovative way to satisfy players who are dedicated to crafting activities in MMOs, while at the same time works for players who want some of the benefits without some of the traditional tedium. And think of the possibilities for expanding this system in the future!

Thanks to Damion for the time this week at the Fan Site Summit!

Enjoy the interview and please let us know your thoughts on the Crew Skills system below!

Oh, and we got a sneak peak at part of tomorrow’s update – WOW!

We’ll keep this post updated with our additional coverage, as well as items from other fan sites that come up.
