E3 2011: Daniel Erickson Interview w/ GameReactor
Just as the San Diego Comic-con train* is about to leave the station, the E3 caboose is still in view!
GameReactor has just posted a nice video interview with BioWare Writing Director Daniel Erickson. During the chat, we hear about the immense polishing effort currently underway, but also some interesting comments about end-game:
GameReactor: What will I see at end-game if I am not interested in rolling “alts” (paraphrased)?
Daniel Erickson: You’ve got Operations, Warzones, and some full different content that we have not talked about yet.
Definitely worth a watch if you’re one of the TOR faithful… hop on over to GameReactor to check it out!
*Note: “train” does not imply “the” train.

E3 2011 – Tatooine Hands-On Impressions
Yes, one last E3 article. Yes, it’s late. But, better late than never, right? :)
I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on Star Wars: The Old Republic on three separate occasions.
This first was at PAX in Seattle last September, where there were a select group of Republic and Empire origin worlds available for play – minus the Jedi classes and Tython – in 15 minute sessions. This wasn’t really enough time to get a true feel for things, and the booth setup was less than optimal for focusing on the game. But I had a great time.
The second time was this past April during the Fan Site Summit held at BioWare’s Austin studio where TOR is being developed. I had 2 solid days of experiencing origin worlds, Warzones, and Flashpoints. It was during this event where I really got a sense for the state of the game, and where it was headed. And boy, was I excited!
So, fast forward to last week… the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles. The epicenter (pardon the earthquake pun) of the video game universe for 3 days every year. It was here, playing on a recently released build of the game, with a completely revamped user interface, that I truly felt like I had a feel for what the game might be like when it’s released later this year – and it was a really, really good feeling. Let me explain.

Friday Update: Developer Blog, Fan Friday + E3 Accolades
Another Friday is here and the SW:TOR train keeps rolling! The community team just posted today’s triple-thread update!
Developer Blog
First is a Developer Blog by writer Ian Ryan. He lets us know that writing is DONE on TOR, but also talks about what writers do well after writing has been completed:
Writing is complete on Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. The last lines of dialogue are off for recording and translation; only pickups and polish remain. But at BioWare, a writer’s job doesn’t stop at the written word. I’m Ian Ryan, a Writer on The Old Republic, and I’m going to show you some of the many ways a BioWare writer continues to shape our game’s stories long after the writing is finished.
Click here to read Ian’s full blog entry.
Winning
Next, BioWare shows off all of their ribbons, medals and honors from E3. It’t no secret that The Old Republic is much anticipated and high on the charts for everyone including the media, and this impressive list confirms it.
Fan Friday
Finally, we get this month’s edition of Fan Friday… which Ask A Jedi is proud to be a part of!
It’s packed with the usual goodies:
- Awesome Fan Art
- Fan Site Spotlight Featuring – us!
- Two New Polls:
- Some very cool forum icons, representative of various Star Wars factions:
- And last but not least, a very cool piece of concept art of Corellia!

Holo-video and images from Corellia show widespread destruction in Coronet city, and though an act of terrorism has not been ruled out, some fear the situation may be more serious.
We want to thank BioWare, LucasArts and EA for all of the ongoing support for the fan site community, and are honored to have been chosen to be featured this week!

The MMO Report: G4's Uncle Casey Talks To BioWare's Uncle Blaine
If you’re more than just a casual MMO gamer, you’re probably familiar with The MMO Report on G4 TV hosted by Casey Schreiner. But if you’re like me and have DirecTV, which has removed G4, you can now only see the MMO Report on the web. But that’s ok, because it’s the same on the web as it is on TV!
So, embedded below is the most recent episode, which appropriately enough is the E3 2011 Special. Since there was no lack of MMO news coming out of E3, it’s an episode chock-full of good info.
But we’re interested in The Old Republic, right? Since that’s the case, you can skip right to 12:40 in the video to see Casey discuss the finer points of TOR with Senior Live Producer Blaine Christine.
For the hardcore followers of TOR, there may not be much new information in here, but we do learn that Tatooine is content that is still considered in the first “chapter” of our class story.
So needless to say, if you’re reading this, you should check it out!
