Ask A Jedi At E3 2011!

With E3 just days away (and some details and info already starting to emerge,) convention season is about to kick off in a big way for fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic!

And what would “Ask” A Jedi be if we didn’t have the answers? With that in mind, we’re packing up our bags and headed off to tinseltown for some smash-mouth coverage of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3!

Ask A Jedi launched exactly one year ago during E3 2010 with an exclusive interview with James Ohlen, and we intend to hit the show hard again this year! We’ve got an interview slot set up, a playtime slot set up, and are geared up and fully equipped to capture everything we can while at the show. +20 to our Multimedia stat!

E3 promises to be a big show for fans of TOR, and while we may not get something as monumental like a release date, it seems as though there will be no shortage of new and cool info coming out of it.

So, stay tuned… and make sure you also follow us on Twitter and Like us on Facebook as well, because we’ll be pushing info out everywhere!

Get ready folks, I think this IS the show we’re looking for :)

GameSpot E3 Preview – Raids, Mounts, Tattooine & More!

GameSpot has just posted what is the second external update that Stephen Reid alluded to earlier today! (An MMORPG interview with Georg Zoeller was the first.) It seems to be a virtual pre-E3 smorgasbord!

Talking about raids, we know now that they’re called “Operations” in The Old Republic:

GameSpot: One of the most popular activities for high-level players in online games these days is to go on high-end raids in search of powerful loot and other rewards. Tell us about the raiding game in Star Wars: The Old Republic. How will it improve on the kinds of raid gameplay we’ve seen in other games?

Gabe Amantangelo: What you’d know as raids in other MMOs, we’re calling “operations” in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Operations will be epic, multi-group events with settings and immersive gameplay inspired by scenes in the Star Wars movies. For examples, players will have to navigate the environment as a powerful Force wielder brings down the room around them; they’ll have to work together to solve a code and fend off enemies while they’re cornered, and so on.

There is just a ton of info over there, so check it out while we continue to comb through the details!

Alyson Bridge has just posted notice of today’s Friday Update, and it’s a three-fer!

First up, it’s chock full of info we get to sink our teeth into next week at E3! Here are some highlights:

  • Show Booth Information! – TOR will be available in part of EA’s booth #1601
  • New Trailer! – We’re teased with memories of Deceived, and Hope… planting the seed for a third trailer. Will it go even further back in time?
  • The Eternity Vault! – There’s a hint of a mutual evil present on Belsavis that both sides will have to fight to overcome. Could this be a raid?
  • Alderaan! – Not sure about this one… talks about an army of soliders. What could it be?
  • Gameplay! – It looks like E3 attendees will be getting to spend some time on Tattooine and will have a chance to get acquainted with some Tusken Raiders! And “something never seen before.”
  • Live Broadcasts! – BioWare has got a whole host of networks and sites on deck to flow out massive coverage of TOR. Spike TV, G4 TV, IGN.com, Gamespot.com, Machinima, EA.com and more!

Stay tuned for more, and click for the full read!

Next, possibly upstaging the E3 info, is a newly redesigned interactive Advanced Classes page! Here, we get to finally see all of the names of the skill trees within each Advanced Class (in addition to the shared tree.)

Finally, the last part of Friday’s update is the official announcement of the availability of the new Lost Suns comic. Check it out!

EA To Launch Digital Download Service; TOR Exclusive Online Distribution

GameSpot is reporting on an article published today in the Wall Street Journal that Electronic Arts is prepping an online download service similar to Steam, and that this service will be the exclusive online resource for purchasing Star Wars: The Old Republic:

The Wall Street Journal reports the megapublisher is readying a Steam-like online store to sell 150+ games directly and offer social networking; will be sole online seller of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

This will obviously be a big part of EA’s E3 press conference this coming Monday, and we’ll be there in the room when Electronic Arts’ CEO John Ricitiello makes the announcement to bring you the details as they pertain to our favorite upcoming MMO.

Does this bode well for a release date at E3? We’ll see…

[UPDATE] – Stephen Reid has posted a note on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic community forums in regards to Origin:

While I will say we have some super-cool stuff coming out of E3 – some of which you’re actually going to see before E3 starts – I don’t want you to jump to conclusions just yet. Instead I’d suggest you just strap in and enjoy the ride.

So we’ll see something “before” E3 starts… interesting! And with that, we head into the pre-E3 countdown weekend!
