Beta Weekends Update: No Testing September 9th-11th

We don’t like bringing you bad news here at Ask A Jedi. Really, we don’t! But sometimes, no matter how bad, that news needs to be reported. However, don’t look at this as bad news, but rather delayed good news!

Earlier today, BioWare Senior Community Manager Stephen Reid posted a Beta Weekends update on the official forums, with what player might be able to expect next, and when they might expect it:

There is no Beta Testing Weekend scheduled for this weekend. There may be further Beta Testing Weekends during September, but we’re not going to guarantee it. The weekend that just finished was really our first dry run of Beta Testing Weekends as a whole, and we have plenty of data to crunch, and decisions to make before we start things up again.

To be clear, that means that you can ease up on the blood pressure medicine and stop checking your spam folder – there isn’t any testing this weekend and they’ll let us know when it will resume.

The good news is, it sounds like when it does, Stephen confirmed there will be a shiny new build, as was disclosed yesterday.

Stephen Reid and his adoring fans.

  1. What does Shiny new build mean?

  2. Frankly, I’m disappointed in Bioware. After all the PAX hype, they knew we were excited. They could have handled this far better.

    • So you’d rather them continue testing without putting the new client out or having people download twice the amount?

I’d have to guess that either they just worked in a significant change or found a major problem once the beta weekend started.

      • No, I would rather they communicate better about it. ie. “Weekend testing won’t be every weekend in September.” Or a limited amount of weekends or we probably won’t have weekend betas but if you get an invite well SURPRISE! Instead they sold us all at PAX on this big weekend event in September. They knew relatively when a new client was coming, they knew by last weekend at the very least. They chose to jerk people around. I have been bragging them up for awhile, now I’m left thinking that they are dishonest, or at least incapable of sharing information. They could have handled it better.

        • They have been extremely open about it imo. It is almost as if you think they have the game ready, and are now just teasing consumers until they are ready to launch it. It is still in closed beta, and there are (incredibly) bugs to be fixed and issues to discover. They discovered issues, they are fixing them. And are being up front about it too. And this is coming from an european who who have had the whole beta-invite pulled back on us, and not just beta-weekends.

  3. My guess is this is testing is being used as a “mini-launch” event. They are using this to practice early access and the loads on the starting areas with 1000s of people in the same spot. So they are probably tweaking the systems that handle access and maybe even going through to see if they need to use the instancing of starting zones and the like. I personally thing this has little to do with the client they are using and more to do with how they will internally handle the launch week.

Since there were problems on their end, they need to adjust, tweak and do some more rehearsals before they do another “dress rehearsal”, aka beta weekend.

    • I agree. The progressively bigger waves suggest they’re tweaking their servers to handle the launch numbers without a bunch of flaws. I have to say that a new build being pushed out is also really likely. Especially since they just announced localized builds being released for EU servers.

I still check my new mail and spam folders several times daily. Never know if they’ll send you a regular beta invite after all. Does anyone else cry when you check your gmail spam folder and it says “hooray no spam here!”? :)

  4. i dont give nothing about ‘there will be’ no more…..seeing is believing !

  5. Honest I am sad that their will be no testing this weekend, slim chance I may have gotten in! But to all the chicken little that are screaming “The sky is falling!”, calm down. This isn’t going to set the game back 10 years, kill your grandma, or beat your dog. It is a MINOR setback. I have faith that Bioware will fix it. Till then we wait.

  6. Maybe the weekend test was a huge success and now they wanna throw out their latest and greatest build. And should testing over the next month or so go well then launch the game. This has been my overly optimistic post, and I hope for it to be true.

  7. What sad news this is. They couldn’t even carry through with BETA weekends in September. I don’t think you can really put much of a good light on this. i would say things did not go as planned and they ran into unexpected problems.

  8. Hey Lethality….when are you going to give us some happy news? The last few posts from you are like you own stock in anti-depression medications and you are looking to help the value of your portfolio
