EU Game Testing Update – New Game Build Incoming

European Community Manager Chris Collins gave a much-anticipated update on Game Testing to fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic who live in the European Union, although the news probably isn’t exactly what most of them wanted to hear:

After a lengthy discussion here at the BioWare offices, the decision has been made to postpone the proposed Game Testing invites for EU players for a number of reasons.

On the upside of Chris’ post, once invites do go out, everyone will be playing on a brand-spanking new major build of the game, and for EU players, for the first time in their localized languages:

Secondly, this new build will bring about the first localized versions of Star Wars: The Old Republic, which means those of you that speak French and German will have the chance to play the game in those languages, for the first time ever. We’re extremely excited to be able to offer this to our players and as such, we’re keen to get a lot of feedback from European testers in particular.

It sounds like the new build could be rolled out as early as this week, so that’s good news for everyone – either in testing, or about to be invited! Either way, we’ll be one build closer to launch :)

  1. I feel they’re giving the EU players a bit of a run around, and they’ve been doing it some time now. How is downloading the game for a few days of game play, any different from the players who have to download the game purely for the testing weekend?

They’re effectively backtracking on everything they say. I love Bioware with a passion, but they’re testing my patience with their bs.

We want to speak positive about the game and your services, don’t make us lose fave Bioware.

  2. This is really disappointing news for the EU community and has been really poorly managed. Bioware had announced a large wave of EU test invites were due for launch have delayed for days. This is the news we get?

The EU testing of this game has been minimal and while its good news a localised version is going to be released it doesnt quite make up for the way the EU community has been largly neglected by Bioware.

I hope sincerely this is not the shape of things to come.

  3. Rasmus Lauridsen says:

I’m pretty sure most of us understand the difference between the beta weekends and the longer beta tests.
The weekends are either for showing off the game or testing how the systems and infrastructure react to many real players.

The longer beta sessions are for game mechanics, balance you know the things that take time to figure out. Bioware would learn nothing from us getting in and playing for a few days when there is a new build coming changing the basis of their tests, so they choose to postpone.

All the people moaning the loudest clearly don’t want to test the game they just want to play it.

Love the amount of info he releases. It is nice that it is not compressed into 140 chars including three hashtags… Yeah looking at you Stephen Reid.

  4. Wish BW would have been honest about it 2 years ago, and put note on their betasignup US only at this moment, would have saved them and us, alot of bad feelings.

  5. They keep saying how important the EU community is to them and then treat us like the child who will be taken to the zoo tommorow if he is good………………or is it the red headed step child?

  6. They indeed promise us (EU) already a long time invites but it keeps pending, as already mention here, they say that EU community is important but doesn’t feel like it..

One of the reason the delay is because a new big patch is coming were French and German language will be included, Europe is bigger then France and Germany, I’m from Belgium and have lack to these languages.

Guess there is something bigger going on which we don’t know.

  7. Just so you guys know, its NOT the first time ever with german&french VO beta testing. Its been in testing for a while, and this I and many others know by fact. I don’t understand what’s gone so wrong they have to lie to us.

  8. I love how everyone get so bitter like they feal like they are owed something because the signed up for beta testing. BW is testing what they want when they want… if your lucky enough to get in great if not thats life dont sign up for beta… like some how BW is screwing the EU community cause they are not ready to send out invites…. get over yourselves!

  9. While this news isn’t exactly what we wanted to hear, I’m glad that they’re taking the neccessary steps in testing. If it takes a little while longer for the massive EU beta invites to take place than initially said, so be it. My only concern is that postponing further testing will affect the release date…

  10. So , dunno if this is a dumb question , but does that mean the UK is effected by this? does anyone know if the UK are getting the Beta Weekend inv’s? or is it just the non English speaking EU countries?
