Blue Milk & Cereal: What Did You Think Of The Eternity Vault?

No day would be complete without the breakfast of Jedi: Blue Milk & Cereal.  Every morning, the team at Ask A Jedi will get Force-induced thoughts coursing through your head with delicious issues from around the galaxy! Join in the discussion below to make your voice heard!

Yesterday during the Electronic Arts press conference, the Star Wars: The Old Republic portion was dedicated primarily to talking about and showing off end-game information.

Dr. Ray Muzyka was on hand to introduce Lead End-game Designer Gabe Amatangelo, who narrated a live demo of 8 BioWare staffers tried to guide an Imperial team through the first encounters of the Eternity Vault Operation. Wether they were successful or not is of some debate this morning ;)

None the less, we got to see some pretty intense action, in fact the first live raid gameplay ever for the public. After the live gameplay ended, Gabe introduced a short pre-recorded gameplay video from further into the Eternity Vault. In this clip, we got to see some different areas, creatures, and what appeared to be some sort of puzzle mechanic.

In my opinion, everything we saw added to my confidence that BioWare is going to deliver an end-game worthy of seasoned MMO players.

But what did you guys think? Was there anything you saw that was cool? Did anything come across as boring or silly? Let us know!

What did you think of the Eternity Vault gameplay?

  1. Was pretty lame imo, simple as that.

    • Why? I mean, you might have valid reasons… but your comment is sort of invalid without them :) I thought it was great. Seemed to have a Star Wars feel, yet captured the things we like about raiding… with the potential for new mechanics like the puzzle.

    • Shapeless says:

What Rebel said…where was the lame part?

    • Its an MMO, people love raiding, if you change raiding it wouldnt be raiding, some things might be same ole same ole, but a fork is a fork no matter what color or funny shapes you give it, a fork is fork. Raiding is raiding, same goes for PVP, same ole same ole

  2. I enjoyed the trailer at the end, but the actual gameplay was hindered by the group of them seemingly waiting around for Gabe to mention things, so they could then show it on screen. That imo, made the whole thing seem a little slow.

  3. Shapeless says:

I thought it was pretty awesome. I did vote “Liked it – seems fun, but the same-old thing all over again”…because I didn’t see anything groundbreaking as far as the mechanics of endgame content.

A team gets together, enters endgame content, comes up against blockades, wipes/wins, moves on.

I think that’s what endgame PvE is all about though. I’m not sure what BioWare could do to make things different or new as far as PvE endgame goes.

Had “Loved it – seems fun, but the same-old thing all over again” been an option, that would have been my choice.

  4. I loved it, it looked like a lot of the class abilities like force charge and bounty hunter uppercut still worked on “bosses”, which is a nice feature. I am still hoping to see more complete raid footage, see how the “caster” classes feels like in TOR, and ofc the cover depended agent and smuggler aswell.
I do firmly believe Bioware is making a great game, who cares if there is a class or two that I dont like, there are 8 classes with two AC each..Awesome…Love Bioware..Gonna love TOR too

  5. I thought it was great. At least from my P.O.V. Since I’m gonna be a Juggernaut tank. I just loved how he charged in there and tanked all those mobs. The 2nd best thing was seeing an Operative healer at work, since that’s gonna be one of my alts. In fact, I think they had all the AC’s there that I’m gonna play. Juggernaut tank, Operative healer, Mercenary Arsenal & SI Assassin damage dealer. So it was pure win from my P.O.V. Aside the fact that the assassin died :(

  6. I love raids and raiding, I like getting 8-16 people together and working together for a few hours a night for a common goal.

The EV looks awesome, a lot of variety in terms of bosses and potential mechanics. Do I care that it is the same old same old? Not at all. When you consider that TOR is still a game based around loot and the trinity, there is not a lot of room for PvE encounters to grow.

Now if you look at games like TERA, in which combat is in real time and for say ranged classes you have to aim your attacks and tanks need to block with their shields, that is cool. The game is designed around those mechanics and as such, they can diversify their encounters.

  7. I chose “liked it” simply because I would need to actually see it first hand and experience the gameplay before I could say I loved it. Looked pretty awesome though.

  8. Well, it’s your usual raid from what we’ve seen so far. Pretty fun, but not groundbreaking.

Now look what Guild Wars 2 showed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0nCHPl_mEU

This is what I call groundbreaking…
