Ask A Jedi: Who Was The Most Powerful Force Wielder? And More…

If you spend any time on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic forums, you are sure to have seen his passion and prose regarding all things Jedi. You know him as Professor Walsh. Each week (or thereabouts,) Professor Walsh will answer a few reader-submitted questions in order to enlighten us all with the ways of the Jedi. You can submit your own question at the end of the article!

Dear Jedi,

What do you think about Jedi ranks being used as classes in TOR? Jedi Knight is a rank, so what does that mean for ranks in the game? Do you think there might be specialized paths or titles such as seen here? http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jedi_Consular

Rebel

Dear Rebel,

The Jedi ranks are fine by me as a game mechanic. They are a little awkward, indeed, but overall they are not too bad. There were other titles in lore, such as Jedi Lord and such, so we may be able to see some of those in game. All in all, while a little odd, I don’t mind them.

Dear Jedi,

Who is the most powerful Force wielder ever in the history of Star Wars. I don’t care wether you consider him a Jedi or Sith or whatever… I just wanted to know if there was a Force wielder that was more powerful than any other. I have also learned of a few very powerful Force wielders as in TCW Overlords and Abeloth but just wondering.

Clark

Dear Clark,

The most powerful mortal Force wielder ever in the history of Star Wars is clearly Luke Skywalker. He is hands down the most potent and powerful Jedi. Abeloth may indeed be more powerful than he is though. Abeloth is a being of unknown origin, and at the moment is at the top of the heap based on what we know.

Dear Jedi,

What race was the first Jedi? We know what race the first Sith was, but what about the Jedi?

Joshua

Dear Joshua,

The first Jedi were human as far as we know. They were scholars who gathered to study the Force.

Dear Jedi,

Can Jedi use weapons other than lightsabers? Why or why not?

xxUneppxx

Dear xxUneppxx,

In the game, your guess is as good as mine. In lore, of course they can, they simply do not usually. Jedi often have no need for blasters or grenades, but as we have seen, especially in The Clone Wars, Jedi made use of weapons other than the lightsaber. The reason they do not is because they have trained with the lightsaber all of their lives and the weapon allows them more options than a blaster does, though they can, and do, use other weapons when needed.

Do you have a question for our Jedi-in-residence, Professor Walsh? Submit it via the form below, and we’ll be sure to pass it along to him when he emerges from meditation.

Lego Luke

  1. “The most powerful mortal Force wielder ever in the history of Star Wars is clearly Luke Skywalker.”

I’m not sure I would agree with you here. I don’t recall Luke being all that powerful of a Jedi, especially not in the movies (perhaps in the EU – but nothing stands out to me that I recall), where he defeats the Emperor largely due to inaction.

Anakin seemed to be a much more powerful Force user, before his “accident” on Mustafar. Even after years of being contained in a Cyborg body, he was still powerful enough to defeat Darth Sidious, as well as his own son.

    • Before comparing the movies, I think you need to have some context. First, ROJ was released in 1983 and ROS in 2005. The ability of CGI alone would account for the increased ability of Anakin. Secondly, with the release of ROJ, there was relativity little lore (other than the movies) regarding Jedi. Fast forward to 2005, you have a ton of both jedi and Sith lore from all the books, which means the script writers can incorporate a lot more into the story line.

So, in all honesty, i think you’re trying to compare apples to oranges.

  2. What criteria or rationale are you using to proclaim Luke the most potent and powerful force user, or even Jedi, ever? Is this just because he’s your favorite character, or is ther some lore you can point to to back this up?

I would say, just off the top of my head, that there are several more powerful force users than Luke, such as:

Yoda (clearly based on the fact that young Anakin’s midichlorian count is compared to his when Kenobi and Qui-Gon take a reading)

Anakin (his midichlorian count is higher than Yoda’s, plus his father was the Force itself)

Palpatine/Sidious (was making Luke into a Jedi crisp before Vader stepped in)

Obi-Wan Kenobi (defeats anakin in saber combat in his prime)

Plus these people all performed amazing feats with the Force, unlike Luke.

I could go on, but I think I’ve made my case. Care to elaborate on yours good sir?

  3. Luke isn’t that powerful in the EU. In fate of the jedi series: Vestara Khai from the Lost Sith is more of a force user. Vestara Khai saved Luke using the force and multiple other times in the series: lightning, force push, use force to block pain etc. Luke other than using force leap, I have not seen much from Luke.

    • You haven’t been reading too much into the EU then. You can’t look at just one circumstance to say someone is suddenly the most powerful force user ever. Consistently throughout the EU, Luke has proved to be the most powerful force user ever. He has moved a planet, he has single handedly manipulated a black hole, he demonstrated the ability to fight Abeloth, the leader of Vestara’s sith and more sith all at once, while continuously defeating different forms of Abeloth one after another. Vestar did save him from Abeloth once, but Luke killed three of her forms before forcing her to retreat. He has the ability to teleport things through space, he has the ability to choose a specific memory that someone has and completely eradicate it. He can make a force illusion of an entire military space fleet that tricked a sith lord. There’s numerous examples of Luke proving time and time again that he is the most powerful thing out there. Now, that has nothing to do with him being unstoppable. He holds himself back a lot. His morals don’t allow him to act in ways that other jedi, or force users would. As a result, he gets beat up on a lot and usually finds alternative ways to achieve his goals without going all out on someone.

      • I have to agree, im not a huge luke afan and i dont agree he’s ghe strongest force user ever…..tho most likly the strongest jedi. In the EU its rather clear thats the case, anakin could have been stronger but failed to meet his power potentual when he lost most of his body parts.

  4. I agree with Jon. Clearly if Luke was to unhinge himself and act completely without regard to his morals, then the galaxy would be har pressed to stop him. But also in consideration must be Darrh Revan, for if you look at it, no one really knows for sure if he is even dead for real. He could be hiding somewhere with an army just waiting tomcome out of “retirement”. And dot forget Anakin Solo. While only 16, he was said to be on the fast track to having power equivalent to Luke. He had singlehandedly discovered away to sense the Yuuzhan Vong and also displayed force powers such as emerald judgment, a light side based force lightning.

    • Read the books later luke gets powerful enuff to walk on lava and rip engines from empire star ships from the ground with a flick of his finger so what know

    • Yes its true he was amazing for his age nut he died long before he could be considered close to the best, as a ‘what if’ perhaps but thats not what this is.

    • Anakin Solo was my favorite character in the EU. I still can’t believe he died as young as he did. He had the potential to be as strong if not stronger than Luke but didn’t live long enough to reach it. Luke however continuously shows throughout the EU that he is not only the most powerful Force user but the greatest duelist as well. For those of you that don’t think so try reading the books and not just watching the movies…

  5. Id say Gallen marek’s clone had the potentual to be more powerfull than luke if expanded upon. He was said to be luke without the restraint

  6. Darth Bane was the strongest. Luke is a bitch by comparison.
