Patch Notes: 1.0.0e – Server Queue Grace Period Added

During last night’s scheduled maintenance, BioWare applied a small client patch. And while one grace period may have ended, they’ve given us another, more permanent one! This patch includes the addition of a server queue “grace period”. In case you get disconnected while in a queue, you retain your spot (for a reasonable amount of time)! This is no doubt going to make many players happy.

  • Fixed an issue that caused some pre-assigned guild names to display incorrectly.
  • Players who are disconnected while in the queue to join a server now retain their position upon logging back in within a reasonable amount of time.

    You forgot to add to the patch notes “Forced subscription to get your free 30 days play time.” Can’t play unless you subscribe. They are really screwing up this launch. So much for getting what you paid for, because $150 for the CE is not looking too smart.

    • You know that they won’t actually charge your card for gametime until after the 30 days is up, right? And you know that you can cancel that subscription at any time and still get your 30 days free before you start getting charged?

      This is a practice that most subscription based services (gaming and non) perform. They give you “free” time, and you have to subscribe, with the hopes that you either like the service or are too preoccupied to cancel when the free time is up. Don’t rage against Bioware for doing something every one else does as well, and has no real negative consequences for you except you having to type in your credit card number.

  2. Sorry but that me laugh. That is standard in EVERY mmo I have ever played. The first 30 days are free but they ask for your info. Please do some research before bashing a company.

  3. Queue grace period is great. However, they also need to let you back in if you get disconnected. Maybe that’s a part of it, but waiting in queue only to get in game, get DC’d, and then have to wait in queue again is not good. Hopefully this covers both things.

    Only two days since official launch and they are really addressing the issues quickly. My server had queues the last week straight, but none last night. I’m wondering if the population is starting to spread out a little better, or if BW has taken action to reduce queues and they just aren’t telling us. Either way, i love it!

  4. I imagine that this will only serve to extend queue times, since as it stands, a lot of people are running afk macros to prevent being logged out at all in order to avoid the queues. A very selfish move, I agree, but I also imagine that a lot of people who’s games crash, while a bad thing for them, help to shunt the queue forward and let others in. It’s a viscous circle atm, these server queues.

    I personally logged out of LoL server to do a few chores yesterday, and joined the queue in order to give me time to do stuff. However, I never got back in following 2 queue disconnects and queues over 1.4k people.

    My preorder from amazon also did not arrive today, despite postage on the 16th dec, so went downtown and bought it over the counter (for full price of £45 mind you, when amazon charged me £23 since I preordered before it was announced, so this was the original price offered by amazon). While this got me a preorder code, it seems my game was caught up in the Christmas mail cuircit, and so now I have to send it back, if it finally arrives.

    Further to this, I was able to redeem my code today after roughly an hour of waiting for websites to load, and did manage to subscribe, so am all set, but bioware informed us that they initiated the delay in release (was originally due in jan 2011) in order to get a “smooth launch”. History, and reality has proven that SWTOR is just another mmo launch, and “smooth launch” is a word that mmo creators should avoid using. Reality has proven that no matter how many steps taken, it cannot be done. In my opinion, biowares smooth launch efforts fragmented the player community (friends must role on diff servers to avoid the queues) jammed servers full after launch with their guild assignment program, and generally failed to deliver on almost all ideals, or aims.

    While the game is indeed amazing, bioware engineered these problems for us, and while in 3 months, most of us using websites like these will look back and laugh, many gamers may be lost due to overworked and stressed CSR failing to respond adequately
