Game Testing & Beta Weekends FAQ Available

BioWare Senior Community Manager Stephen Reid took some time to post short FAQ on the official SW:TOR forums in response to endless threads questioning virtually everything about the program.

Mr. Reid offers answers to nearly all of the most persistent questions, including your eligibility for multiple Beta Weekends:

After a Beta Testing Weekend is over, will I get re-invited to a future Beta Testing Weekend?

At this time, we are not planning to re-invite those who are invited to a Beta Testing Weekend to future Beta Testing Weekends. This may change in the future.

I previously participated in Game Testing, but am no longer participating. Does that omit me from being re-selected, either for a Beta Testing Weekend, or Game Testing generally?

Currently, if you have previously been selected to test Star Wars: The Old Republic, you will normally not be re-selected for future testing. (This applies whether you were selected previously for Game Testing, a Beta Testing Weekend, or any other testing access.) That may change closer to launch, but we want to get as many fresh eyes on the game as possible.

You can read the entire FAQ here, which we can presume will be updated if/when new questions/answers arise!

Good luck to all of the TOR faithful hoping to help test!

  1. While I understand why they don’t want people who already made it into beta weekends (I was one) to get into another beta weekend, I don’t understand why these people can no longer be selected for the ongoing beta.

My understanding of the purpose of the beta weekends was twofold. (and these are personal guesses having nothing to do with what I saw or did in the test.)

    1. I had guessed they were doing this as a mock start up day. A stress test of their server hardware to see how well it worked.

    2. To get fresh opinions from a large amount of new people to the game and see if there were things they could do to make the game better based on data received as well as suggestions given to them during and after testing.

For the ongoing beta, I thought the purpose was much different.

That purpose being simply to make sure the game is as polished, stable, and bug free as possible.

Perhaps I’m missing why this disqualifies people who were in the weekends testing to no longer be valid for the ongoing testing.

Perhaps I’m misreading his post. *shrugs*

Either way, the game will come out eventually and we’ll all get to play it then. ^_^

  2. I can understand not wanting too many ppl having too much incite on how to get a head, but I feel if that’s what players are going for then it’s their spoiler. Not to mention with more ppl on the servers we will see more bugs uncovered, and get a lot more feedback if players are able to analyse the game for longer.

IMO – All beta members should be allowed to play each weekend till a week or 2 before release.
