As we all know, MMOs are a great, social way to play games with friends… We also know that players tend to spend a fair bit of time inside of these games. You could even make the argument that MMOs have become a sort of “social network” in and of themselves.
So, it would seem natural that developers and players alike would be interested in extending the game to outside platforms, such as smart phones and tablets, to allow players to stay connected even more!
Blizzard has had a mobile armory for the iPhone for some time, allowing players access to their character’s information. But more recently, for a fee, they’ve allowed access to in-game features such as the auction house. Even more recently, they’ve begun offering the option to participate in guild chat right from your mobile device! The upcoming Guild Wars 2 team has also made some noise when it comes to supporting mobile platform integration with their game in some very robust ways.
If in fact we look at these games and worlds as interactive social networks, and since Facebook, Twitter and others already support mobile platforms, why not MMOs?
So we want to know – would you use a mobile app for Star Wars: The Old Republic? Would you like to see in-game features, or just social features? Would you pay extra for these features? Discuss!

Without a doubt, one of the most important features of these games going forward. I hope BioWare has stuff ready right out of the chute, or they may fall behind.
I would certainly make use of a mobile app AND pay for it, if that were necessary. Mobile apps could be anything from talent tree organisers too crew skill operation / out of game guild chat etc..

Also some sort of Social Platform plugin could be vital too the games continuing success.

I am the exact same way. If they release a free app, I’ll definitely use it. If they release a paid app I’ll have to think about it.
They would make an API for mobile devices, making us able to develop custom aplications :)
I would be interested in an app that gave you access to your companions allowing you to send them on missions and que for crafting as well as access to the auction house and guild chat.

I refrained from voting, I do not have a mobile phone so I would not use one by default. But that answer does not seem to get at the purpose of the poll, so it felt like it would not have been terribly useful.
That’s right, I don’t have a mobile phone. I’m weird.
Definately would like to see an app for the companion missions in crafting and what not. Also an authenticator of course.
The only application I would consider would be an authenticator. I really dislike the use of the other applications.
If I’m out and about, I’m doing it to be out and about. I don’t want to feel like I need to reach in to my pocket and micro-manage something for a game I left back at my house.
I would hope BioWare does not get sucked in to this kind of thing. Keep the game within the game please.
