Star Wars Celebration: Day Two

Today was day 2 of Star Wars Celebration V here in Orlando, and what a day it was. More of the same: heat, humidity and a long walk from the parking lot. But also something a little different than yesterday: Lots of love for Star Wars: The Old Republic!

The Art and Writing of Star Wars: The Old Republic panel kicked off promptly at 2:00pm. On hand were BioWare Principal Writer Drew Karpyshyn, Senior Writer Hall Hood, Lead Concept Artist Arnie Jorgensen and Senior Concept Artist Clint Young. Also on hand, moderating the panel, was David Collins from LucasArts, who is involved with The Old Republic on the sound and audio team.

While the discussion was lively, the highlight of the session was easily the piece of “live” concept art created by Clint Young during the panel. The visuals were striking, depicting a green tone to a mountainous landscape veiled in haze, and dominated by a large star in the background. The finishing touch was a small armada of ships in the atmosphere.

Although not officially revealed, we can’t help but think this is a peak at a planet not yet revealed. Take a look at the concept art in-progress in our gallery below, and let us know what you think. Do you know what planet that might represent?

The same panel will have an encore presentation on Saturday, so perhaps they any reveal something about then? We’ll be there just in case :)

Today we also had a chance to sit down with Drew Karpyshyn and Hall Hood for some interviews, and will be bringing those to you in the coming days!

Also,  just wanted to give a big thank you to Leo from BioWare and Rob from LucasArts for their hospitality in helping us out!

Actually it meant “any”. A long day leads to weak proofreading! Thanks for the catch :)

The concept art reminds me of Ryloth. The big bright sun, the swirling desert sands. Since Ryloth is “tidal-locked”, it doesn’t rotate; one side is perpetually sunny, the other side perpetually dark. The ships in the pic seem to be moving from the night side and into the day side (i.e. crossing the planetary terminator line)

      That’s my guess.

Or its just some random planet he drew for kicks.

The only planet that I know of personally that resembles the one shown is Malachor, but that got destroyed. So I can’t really tell. XP

  2. It looks to be Malachor V which we find is not destroyed but was kept as a Sith training base for the people that hunted the Exile. It was all green and smashed up in the recent holo-log in a green glowing mass of rock and clouds… Just like the art shows.

At least that’s my guess Lethality :-P

    • or did we blow it up… *thinks* I can’t remember now… if we did a peragus station on it and blew it as we left. I wish kotor would work on up to date operating systems :-/

I wonder if we did blow it up it smacked itself to create a mega astroid thingy that looks like Malachor… sort of a proto-planet…

I talked to Clint on Saturday and he said he was just sort of winging it… so it may or may not be from anything specific that we know or do not know about yet ;)
