SDCC 2011: Dallas Dickinson Talks To G4TV

G4TV caught up with Dallas Dickinson, Director of Production at BioWare Austin, at BioWare Base during Comic-Con where he introduces us to the new Darth Malgus statue, and gives an overview of TOR while explaining their goal for the game:

We’re all huge nerds, we all love Star Wars, we all love MMO games, we all love RPGs and BioWare games. And what we’re trying to develop here is the infinite Star Wars role-playing game experience.

There isn’t any new information here for hard-core followers of TOR, but if you’re a hard-core follower you’re going to watch this anyway!

Thanks to @LG_Jenjidai for the tip!

SDCC 2011: Gentle Giant – The Old Republic Collection

Gentle Giant have long been known as makers of quality collectibles across multiple brands such as Harry Potter, Marvel and of course Star Wars.

They’ve even dabbled with characters and collectibles from The Old Republic, including Darth Revan, Shae Vizla, the female Bounty Hunter first seen in the Deceived cinematic trailer and most recently, Darth Malgus as will be included in the Star Wars: The Old Republic Collector’s Edition.

RebelScum.com paid a visit to the Gentle GIant booth at Comic-Con this week and snapped some shots of The Old Republic products, including closeups of the Malgus statue and an all-new mini-bust of Shae Vizla.

Sadly, I am a sucker for these types of collectibles so it has been an expensive week for me between the Collector’s Edition and Shae Vizla mini-bust. But, no expense is too great, apparently, to express my obsession with The Old Republic!

Now, if only Gentle Giant would give the Republic some love…

Head on over to RebelScum.com to check out all the pics!

Friday Update – Join the Fight

For today’s Friday Update, we get a glimpse of the Join The Fight trailer, which made its debut yesterday during the BioWare SDCC panel. The trailer is entirely made up of in-game footage.

Join the fight!

We finally get to see (if only for a scene or two each) each class in action, along with the voices, at least for the genders shown. I believe the Consular showed us some AOE move we haven’t seen before (ranged move on a group, might be CC or an AOE with a CC component); while this may not satisfy Consular fans in lieu of a class video, it sure beats nothing!

On the Imperial side, we can see BioWare likes stabby-stabby moves whenever possible, as both the Bounty Hunter lasso and stab and the Imperial Agent cloak and stab were shown. Nothing too new there, that I can see.

Make sure you like TOR on Facebook or sign up for their Twitter feed to get updates!

SDCC 2011: BioWare Base Q&A + TOR Reveal

The first of of 4 developer Q&A sessions held at BioWare Base has just concluded, and we’re treated with a few more “golden nuggets” of information. Some of it is new, and some of it is stuff we thought we knew but has been changed!

James Ohlen was joined by Rich Vogel, Dallas Dickenson and Stephen Reid to host the Q&A which was streamed on BioWare Pulse. Here are the highlights:

  • Collector’s Edition store is actually an exclusive location that only CE owners have access to!
  • Items from this store however will not give people an advantage in power, though weapons and armor will be available
  • Color Stone is gold in addition to adding effects
  • Sharding may be used on launch day, only if absolutely necessary (the practice of creating multiple copies of the same area)
  • Advanced Class change is in the game. 1st swap is cheap. After that it gets expensive
  • Companion AI – off-limits for talking about! James Ohlen is in trouble.
  • Companion customization is flexible, but you can’t swap their genders. You get customization kits to do this, and get more unlocked later
  • Speeder bikes and land speeders in direct response to player and fan feedback
  • No plans for a Mac version currently, Boot Camp suggested :(
  • An unannounced feature may get you access to different species/class combos
  • Ship interior customization – it’s in the design plan, but not in for launch
  • Lots and lots of titles in the game

As for the reveal, David Bass introduced a very lifelike statue of Darth Malgus. It looks like he’ll be their convention companion for years to come!
