Gordon Walton Departs BioWare

Gordon Walton, Co-Studio General Manager of BioWare’s Austin studio, has left the company and is now with Disney-owned Playdom.

Gordon, along with Co-Studio General Manager Rich Vogel were the two who first approached BioWare with the idea of doing a massively multi-player online game, which eventually became Star Wars™: The Old Republic™.

Darth Hater has the following statement from BioWare Senior Community Manager Stephen Reid:

With great thanks and appreciation, we say goodbye to Gordon Walton for helping bring the game to the phenomenal state it is in today. Rich Vogel remains the Executive Producer and VP of Production, while Greg Zeschuk continues to oversee the entire project as General Manager along with Ray Muzyka as BioWare Group General Manager and we remain confident that the game will excite and delight players worldwide.

Reid goes on to reaffirm fans:

It is business as usual at all BioWare studios, where we remain committed to creating, delivering and evolving the most emotionally engaging games in the world.

I’ve had the opportunity to meet Gordon personally on several occasions, and there just couldn’t be a nicer more genuine person. He also has a wicked sense of humor!

Gordon, good luck with your future projects… !

Sean Dahlberg – Exit… Stage Left

By now you may have heard the news that Sean Dahlberg has left BioWare:

Hi Everyone –

Sean Dahlberg has recently left BioWare. We would like to thank Sean for doing a great job building the TOR Community and we wish him well in his future endeavors!

Best,

The Star Wars: The Old Republic Team

Sean himself confirmed it on his own blog with a post just a short while ago:

No, I’m not terminally ill. No, I didn’t break any bones. No, I didn’t run off and get married. No, I didn’t stay in Germany and run off with anyone. No, I haven’t left earth and taken residence in my very own Death Star to begin the final stages of galactic domination… although that one would be pretty cool. Yes, as announced, I am no longer with BioWare.

So I just wanted to personally say thanks to Sean for everything he’s done… for setting up the foundation for a great community, for having a great sense of humor, for just being regular guy and above all for helping Ask A Jedi get off the ground!

Sean, we wish you the very best in your future quests, and can’t wait to find out what you’re up to!

p.s. You had a real shot at taking over largest size tag in the tag cloud too. ;)

Thursday – "Great Day for BioWare Fans"

UPDATE: Sadly, our suspicions were correct – it’s not TOR related whatsoever. BioWare just announced DragonAge 2 though, so if that floats your boat, check out the new site: http://dragonage.bioware.com/da2/

I’m cautiously posting this here, because there’s a 99% chance it has nothing to do with The Old Republic… but thought it was interesting enough to pass along, since many of us are BioWare fans as well:

@biofeed (the official BioWare Twitter feed) just posted this:

2morrow will be a great day for BioWare fans. Just sayin’

What does it mean? No idea. We hope it’s TOR related, but in our experience @biofeed doesn’t push too much TOR info out.

We’ll know in about 24 hours!
