BioWare PC Performance Guide

No sooner did we tip you off to upcoming performance improvements than did BioWare deliver exactly that in the form of a post from Community Manager Joveth Gonzalez. Joveth gave the reigns over to Associate Project Manager Avi Mintz on the client engineering team:

Developing an MMORPG of this scale and detail means we must support a wide spectrum of performance-impacting scenarios, varied hardware compatibility issues and other unique challenges. Input from our community goes a long way to bolster our investigation efforts and narrow down elusive resolutions to these problems.

To that end, we’re hoping that we can start an open dialogue with you, the community; some of you have called out for this, others have taken the time to publish write-ups, and we are looking forward to collaborating with you to make this game a fantastic journey and a memorable experience for all involved.

Avi’s post is very long and very detailed, and as mentioned, designed to open up a dialogue with the community on these issues. I’d say this is a great step on BioWare’s part to address a very significant problem area for many users. Head over to the forums for Avi’s entire FPS optimization guide.

  1. LOL Is ANYTHING Bioware says gospel to you? This is the biggest pile of steaming crap I’ve ever read. Bioware is LYING to avoid having to admit an ISSUE with the game. Read the replies, the community calls them out immediately and right fully so.

    • Here’s the deal: We are a fan site. We’re fans of the game. If you see this as BioWare somehow trying to sabotage you, you have issues. They are trying to help and open up communication.

      • Thanks for keeping those of us who can no longer stand the ‘main’ forums (mainly because of the overabundance of posters like above) up to date. It’s appreciated :D!

      • As much as I agree that the tone should always be civil and that swtor.com forum is horrible, then I have to agree with the community. This “guide” is not good and does nothing to help fix the problems that Bioware should be fixing. Instead they are trying to blame the gamers and the respective computers.

  2. I can’t tell if this will help or if it’s just adding chum to the water for the Fail!!! Sharks circling the performance threads on the forums.

  3. Urgh, what a nest of whiny-ass I-know-more-than-the-devs that link sends you too :( My rig runs the game at max with over 100fps as I’m sure it does for the silent majority. Good advice for those at min specs though if they don’t scroll past the 1st post. Maybe quote the post here and save some kittens?

  4. RabbiShekky says:

So, the guy puts together a lot of info in one place to try to help people with frame rate issues, and the first page of replies is almost exclusively a bunch of guys crapping all over him.

Damn, I’m surprised BW tries at all.

Speaking as someone who’s had a lot of graphics problems (and whose wife _still_ can’t play on her own machine), I’m pretty frustrated, but I think it’s pretty clear that making this guy a whipping boy isn’t really gonna get the problem resolved any quicker.

  5. Most of the bioware hate related to that post is because many people were looking foward to something that would address fps issues on high end machiences, what they got instead was a couple of simple generic tips. Little bit baffled why you would praise the post

    • …because just like the min/maxers and end-game content, you’re not in the majority group having problems. I know it sucks, I’d be beside myself too, but that’s life. Don’t resub until the prob is fixed. Simples.

  6. Hmmm.. I wonder if the people with problems are playing imperial side? I had the first fps issues on swtor last week-end when my BH first entered the impirial fleet.
Same setting fps went down to 3-5 fps when more than 5 people were clustered together (from 35-45)
Even alone, when running around the middle cantina I had around 20fps.
The same setting has NO issues on the republic side. I am currently far removed from the fleet, but will compare once back up and doing Flashpoints.
    Cheers!

    • Argggg no edit function…
Even though it has maybe statistical relevance the feel itself is from the Empire….not Impire.
