Emergency Patch Scheduled For January 19th

It’s a newsy kind of evening!

As promised earlier by Gabe Amatangelo, BioWare will be applying an emergency patch in the wee hours tomorrow morning to take care of some high-prirority fixes. Without a doubt, Ilum is leading the charge in that area:

Please be advised that the servers will be unavailable beginning at 5AM CST (3AM PST/ 6AM EST/ 11AM GMT/ 12PM CET) as we deploy a new patch. This deployment will fix a few high priority issues in the game. We expect the service to be available again by 10AM CST (8AM PST/ 11AM EST/ 4PM GMT/ 5PM CET). Please watch this thread for updates and information as they become available. To view the status of your server, please visit the Server Status Page.

So, there might be another 5 hours of down time tomorrow, but I think most of the player base will agree – this is a Good Thing™.

  1. Thanks Bioware, it’s not enough they messed up big, but they are taking away an other afternoon from European players…. when is someone gonna tell them, that these maintenance times are only good for America, and they are screwing with everyone on the other side of the Big Pond?

    • @Colmath

Game is new, still sorting out bugs, whenever there is some small issue bunch of ppl jump up to cry everywhere publicly:

“Game is bad, boooo, they are making it worse, booo, they are trying to fix some bugs and that is why they are making another down time, booo, i don’t have anything else to do, booo”

Just stop it. Get a job, do somehing else while servers are down, go play in the sand.

Stop crying, play it or leave it.

      • I’m not crying because of the bugs, they will be sorted out eventually (at least I hope so), I’m crying because of the bad timings for the maintenance. Just think about it for a second, if the downtimes would take up most of the day in the US! Everyone would be up at arms. And rightfully so.
Every other MMO can handle maintenance times separately for different timezones, it’s just a matter of caring.

        • Yeah i managed to see that now, about what you were talking,I just thought it was another rant over some bugs in game.

I have to appologize for over reacting earlyer, not enough sleep and too much coffee can do weird things.

In the end i am not much troubled because of the maintenance hours but only because i work allways at that times, but if I didn’t, yeah it would annoy me.

    • /agree with Colmath.

  2. lol! Another of playing time gone, its exactly at the time i get home (2PM) when the downtime starts, and whenI have 2 go again (6PM) when it ends, basicly my only spare time of the day.

  3. “So, there might be another 5 hours of down time tomorrow, but I think most of the player base will agree – this is a Good Thing™.”

Maybe a good thing for American players, but for Europe it means yet another almost entire day of downtime. It’s getting beyond ridiculous now & they need to sort out a better system for doing maintenance other than taking us down all day again.

  4. You do realize that the US is not the only country in North America that plays this game right?

I understand your frustration with these down times but the reality is that someone has to bite the bullet on this one. BioWare is a North American company, as is EA, and the majority of their player base is in North America. It makes sense for them to have patches go up at times that is most convenient for a North American audience.

It is unfortunate that this patch is even necessary but we can at take heart in the fact that they recognized the problem at hand and are getting a fix up as quickly as possible.

  5. Well it’s not like you can find a perfect time for everyone. For example I don’t like the normal tuesday maintenance being at midnight.. being that I work late here which in turn makes it annoying to me. Still not everyone’s like me so.

  6. it’s standard imperial time, that they follow :P

    • But seriously one idea to fix ILLUM is to make it to a huge battle ground, where both side are placed in a queue. When the both sides are equal then battle starts. If one side does not have enough players these spots fills up with players from the other faction and the fights starts. In the end its not about sides fighting but the experience of some “battle” then they don’t have to worry about server balance, the game will select the players and they will do the objectives that needs to be done.

  7. John Eakins says:

Find a 4 hour window that they can patch that doesn’t fall into someones prime time. US covers 4 time zones, EU covers 2. Face it, someone is going to eat it on these times, so they pick the time that works best for their work day. Patch as they’re starting off the day, work all day and evaluate any new problems.

  8. Blizzard can have different downtimes for different continents, why can’t EA? It’s not like the European servers are run in the US either, so it should be no problem at all to fix us according to our time zone.

  9. It does make me wonder why they take down all servers at once.

There has to be some benefit to this for BioWare/EA if they continue to take the hits to their company image each maintenance period.

Perhaps what they should do is answer WHY they do this when they do?

Then at least some players would be more educated and a little less likely to rant about down times. (You still won’t please everyone…that just isn’t possible.)

  10. Iceveiled says:

Yep..that sucks for you Europeans. They should issue a day or two of free game time since the patch is hitting you during prime time.

The “this game is new and it takes time to work out the bugs” excuse isn’t valid for a fuck up of this magnitude. They delayed the patch one day so they were looking at it. The major focus of the patch, other than bug fixes, was PvP content on Illum and the new flashpoint – so why wasn’t more thorough testing done on Illum? Inexcusable.
