Blue Milk & Cereal: What’s Your Favorite Flashpoint?

No day would be complete without the breakfast of Jedi: Blue Milk & Cereal.  Every morning, the team at Ask A Jedi will get Force-induced thoughts coursing through your head with delicious issues from around the galaxy! Join in the discussion below to make your voice heard!

We just learned this week that BioWare is pushing out their first game update for Star Wars: The Old Republic in just a few days! Entitled Rise of the Rakghouls, there are many fixes and changes but also some new content. Leading the charge in that area is a brand new Flashpoint called Kaon Under Seige.

This new Flashpoint focuses on the spread of the deadly Rakghoul disease, and seems to have an awesome story element attached to it. The same can’t necessarily be said for many other Flashpoints. Other then the Black Talon and Esseles, which tie nicely into your class story and represent your transportation to your faction capital world, most of the rest of them are sort if their own little thing, separate from everything else you might be working on.

Beyond the story, and the unabashed joy at getting to kill more Rakghouls, Kaon Under Seige also seems to bring some new tech and encounter design to the party. Lead End-game Designer Gabe Amatangelo commented on dynamic lighting (you’re pretty much  in the dark other than your immediate area) and an encounter that will litgerally have your back up against a wall. Sounds good to me! Just as other developers have honed their processes over the years, so will BioWare. It’s a safe bet that everything in the future will be more refined that things in the past.

But when we look back, we’ll probably remember some of the current Flashpoints as classics. So for the sake of posterity, record your vote for your favorite Flashpoint in what will eventually be known as “Vanilla TOR” and let us know why!

What's been your favorite Flashpoint so far?

The Esseless as republic.. encounters in flashpoints are not better or worse than others, but story driven flashpoint is cool.
Sadly its only one at this scale =(

Maybe Taral V, trying too, but its not the same.

  2. I think it was a mistake for Bioware to have the first flashpoint be so immersive and story driven, because the ones after it seem rather dull by comparison. I stopped doing flashpoints because I get more interesting stories from the class quests and world arcs.

  3. Both the Black Talon and Esseles highlight the possibilities of the story driven aspects. The way they break up the action with dialogue and choices, the way characters interact, that makes those two flashpoints very immersive.

The rest of the flashpoints all seem to lose a lot of that. They can be fun, or have interesting elements, but they’re pretty much all about the combat combat combat rather then the story.

  4. Foundry by far. I love the story driven missions like this, and the reveal (no spoilers here) had a huge cool factor for me

  5. ScytheNoire says:

None, as I refuse to do them until there is an LFG tool.

  6. I found the ministories the flashpoints represent really nice and the last 2 bind them all together and are awesome closers (at least imperial side)

  7. crkhobbit says:

Directive 7! Which I guess is the Zadd Hydroplant?

The end boss is probably the most epic single group boss I’ve ever fought.
