Wild Space: Legacy Families, Preference Tips, And Crowd Control

It’s a big galaxy our there, and Wild Space can be a dangerous place. Worry not, explorer – each week we’ll navigate you safely through the lost hyperspace routes of the Deep Core and track down the great articles and entertainment from around the SW:TOR fan community, all in less than 12 parsecs, of course!

Republic Trooper

Details on the Legacy System are pretty limited. We know once you complete Act 1 of your class story, the Legacy System opens up to you and you can create a surname for your current character and every other character that you create.

But what happens when one of your alts is human and the other is a zabrak? Roleplaying wise, is it possible for a human and zabrak to be related by blood? Probably, but we don’t know for sure. Republic Trooper wrote up a really good Legacy System article that seeks to answer this question. To quote them:

“It’s not impossible to believe that there would be interspecies marriages in the Star Wars universe but I don’t believe there is a heavy genre history of that occurring…My point is if I want to roll a Twi’lek Jedi Warrior and then a Mirialan Smuggler, after my initial Human Republic Trooper of course, they would all share the same last name and Legacy…It’ll be interesting to see how the interspecies Legacy Families are handled once the game goes live and future content patches begin to flesh out the Legacy framework.”

Indeed it will be interesting to see. Check out the full article over on Republic Trooper.

Force Junkies

Confused by the amount of options that you can modify in the preferences window? Want to know how to tweak your controls and UI to improve your gameplay experience? Force Junkies has you covered!

In this informative video tutorial, the team from Force Junkies put together a huge amount of information about what preferences do what and which ones you might want to consider turning on or leaving off. Best of all, they explain what each preference option does, which clears up any nagging confusion that you might have. It is a really thorough video so I would encourage you all to watch it and garner some useful tips!

SWTOR Arena

Lastly this week, for you PvPers out there, you may be struggling to find information about all the crowd control (CC) abilities available in TOR and what types of CC are available. SWTORArena put together a really good post listing out the different CC abilities that are available to the Classes and Advanced Classes.

They have compiled the information into an easy to read table and also describe the types of CCs and what they do. For instance, “Snare: Targets movement speed is limited, often slowed to below normal run speed” and “Knockback: Teleports opponent(s) away from the CC’er.” This article is really useful for anyone who plans to use CC a lot in their gameplay, PvP or otherwise. Check it out!

wow, thanks Ask A Jedi – for featuring stuff from intergalactic network! SW:TOR has a great community!

  2. ShellGhost says:

Regarding the Legacy System I plan on all my characters being orphans from the war. A Grey Jedi who forsook the order after being forced to single handedly clear a small town of Imperials in order to stave off a Republic bombardment of the area. Despite his success the bombardment commenced killing nearly all the locals. Taking the only survivor with him aboard a small starship he vowed to train other orphans to never be victims again. Being born of both factions these children choose to embrace allegiance as a matter of necessity. Their true goal will be to help those caught in the crossfire as they were. This is my work around to get all the species I want until there is more information onto how things will progress.

  3. Once you create a legacy, are all your characters locked into that legacy, or is it possible to choose whether or not a new character is part of a legacy (and if not, can they start their own)?

  4. The Legacy system is really just a way to permanently identify you, but differentiate your characters. From an RP perspective, what’re the odds of having toons from the same family relevant in the same time period anyway?

Your toons could just as easily share the last name, but be completely and utterly oblivious to each other.

  5. Valon Heler says:

How far into the game (roughly) is the end of Act I of your class story? Level 10? 20? 30?

    • At the end of the last beta weekend, I got past Dromund Kaas and was on my way to Balmorra. Level 18, had my own starship, but did not see anything about legacy. I don’t know when it starts, but I believe it’s at least after that. Hope that helps some.

    • ShellsGhost says:

Around lvl 30-35. Once you complete the initial story arc for your character. I was about twenty minutes away from there last beta and I’ve seen other on livestreams and such reach that point all around lvl 30-34 depending on how much out of class story leveling you do. (couple stories I’ve played/seen are AMAZING!)
