Blue Milk & Cereal: Do You Plan On Buying “Revan”?

No day would be complete without the breakfast of Jedi: Blue Milk & Cereal.  Every morning, the team at Ask A Jedi will get Force-induced thoughts coursing through your head with delicious issues from around the galaxy! Join in the discussion below to make your voice heard!

Today is November 8. Do you know what that means? The SW:TOR prequel novel “Revan” comes out in just one week! I’m not an expanded universe junkie or anything but I have enjoyed the two previous SW:TOR novels and I greatly enjoyed the Knights of the Old Republic games. From what I understand, “Revan” is supposed to bridge the gap between the KOTOR story line and the SW:TOR storyline and that has me very excited.

“Revan” is written by Drew Karpyshyn, veteran of the Star Wars universe (i.e. the Darth Bane Trilogy) and BioWare storytelling (i.e the Mass Effect Trilogy, both novels and games). He was also the lead writer on the KoTOR video game and created the Revan character, so if anyone is suited to write a novel bridging the gap between KoTOR and SW:TOR, it’s Mr. Karpyshyn!

Personally, I have the book pre-ordered already and can’t wait to read it when it comes out. How about you? Are you interested in the story that bridges the gap between KoTOR and SW:TOR? Do you play on picking up a copy of the “Revan” novel?

Do you plan on picking up Drew Karphyshin's "Revan"?

  1. let’s be honest, spoilers are everywhere already. Better to read the book rather then to haplessly watch a video on the internet and have the storyline ruined that way

  2. Unlike WoW, I actually am interested in the stories and characters that shape the backdrop for TOR.

So yes, I’ve pre-ordered it, however my wife won’t let me start reading it until our vacation on Dec. 3, lol.

  3. I am currently reading Fatal Alliance (and this is my first SW book as well). It is my understanding that each of the 3 SWTOR books hold their own story-wise, so maybe I’ll skip the second book and just head straight to Revan.

  4. OneCharacter says:

I’m a little uncertain as to whether or not to purchase the novel. I’d rather not discover any major spoilers that I would have otherwise learned about in the game. I want to be totally surpised and unawares while leveling in ToR.

If I find out that the novel doesn’t contain any major spoilers (not likely), then I will definitely purchase it.

On a side note; I had no idea the character of Revan was created by Mr. Karphyshin. That is absolutely incredible!

  5. I have read the previous two SWTOR novels, Fatal Alliance and Deceived, and enjoyed them both. I planned on getting Revan but wasn’t aware that the Revan story might reveal spoilers for TOR. Has this been confirmed? If the book will contain spoilers I will probably wait.

  6. Maybe yes, I think. Don’t have anything to read since I finished the last books of the dresden’s files and ASOIAF, and Revan is my favorite character from all the old republic era since I played KoTOR… But I have not pre ordered it. On the other hand, Skyrim is out this week and will probably keeps me busy til swtor…

  7. I don’t believe this novel will contain spoilers…in my experience, MMO-related novels usually have story reveals that might be alluded to in the MMO itself, but not actually explained or described in the way the novel does.

  8. Hammerheadcruiser says:

pre ordered this and eragon book 4

  9. Pre-ordered since its was on Amazon, I think.

Can’t wait for this, oh, you pre-ordered the novel about Darth Plagueis?

  10. Abner Ford says:

I pre-ordered it, but I’m kinda wavering now. I don’t know if I’d rather experience the story reveals while playing TOR, or if they’ll be presented differently in the book to the point that it’s totally worth it. Maybe I’ll just wait until closer to the launch to get it and then read it while I’m leveling up.

As a side note, I did pre-order the Art of The Old Republic book, and that just shipped. So huzzah to that!
