Blue Milk & Cereal: Are You A Star Wars Lore Nerd?

No day would be complete without the breakfast of Jedi: Blue Milk & Cereal.  Every morning, the team at Ask A Jedi will get Force-induced thoughts coursing through your head with delicious issues from around the galaxy! Join in the discussion below to make your voice heard!

I have a confession to make. I know very little in regards to the history of the Star Wars universe. My knowledge for the most part was limited nearly exclusively to the movies. I didn’t check out any books, comics, or anything of the like. So to me, it was like none of that existed.

Was I in for a rude pleasant awakening. Since I became focused on Star Wars: The Old Republic, I have put my self through a virtual crash course on Star Wars. Let’s just say, I’ve stepped my game up.

Notably, I’ve read books the recent books in the Star Wars: The Old Republic series like, “Decieved,” and “Fatal Alliance.” Additionally, I’ve had my hands on the Darth Bane trilogy, and now the Thrawn series. I’ll be adding “Revan,” to that list when it comes out in just a few weeks.

But, even with expanding my knowledge as I have, I feel I’m still behind the curve. If you move through the chaos that is the Official Forums, you’ll see there are people who know their stuff. Our very own Professor Walsh can hang with the best of them, having read every single Star Wars novel but two.

So why would I want to do something like this? Well, when it comes down to it, it turns out I’m a lore junkie. I like finding out the odds-and ends-on a particular subject. You never know it may come in hand, to fill in a blank. People have their own reasons why they do it, that’s just mine.

How about you? Would you call yourself a lore buff, or not? Is the backstory to the game world you’re playing in even important to you? Has following TOR made you more interested?

Are you into Star Wars lore?

  1. My dedication to a Star Wars lore has led to me writing about it for a SWTOR fansite. It has also put me in some to the most heated geek debates I have ever seen. I absolutely love the stuff!

  2. I voted “Sort of”. I find that I’m interested in knowing about the stories and characters that shape TOR.

I’ve recently played KOTOR and read Deceived, and am planning to read the Revan novel when it’s released. I may also check out some of the Dark Horse stuff as well.

  3. It’s that digging out the old WEG Star Wars Roleplaying Game, or the Wizards of the Coast d20 version, and then later the Saga Edition of the RPG… the pen n paper did expand a whole chunk before the Thrawn Trilogy helped kick things back into gear..

  4. I also went with “Sort of.” I’ve read some books and comics and played most of the SW games over the years. There’s just way too many books out there, and some of the things i’ve read about just seem awful so I tend to avoid a good bit of EU. Not all of it, but some…

  5. Sort of but not for what reason that was described.

I’ve played the KOTOR games and I enjoy the Movies. I don’t know much about the whole lore, or time line but, against my kids and GF’s wishes will do a Star Wars Marathon once a Month.

I have read a few books that came after the Star Wars Saga.

I am in the process of building molds and a vaccum forming machine to construct my own Stormtrooper Uniform to join the 501st Vaders Fist.

  6. Spootybeaver says:

I played KOTOR 1 and 2, and spent many hours on wookieepedia. One time I almost joined a Star Wars trivia team, that would have been sweet.
I’m excited to go hunting for the all the new lore in SWTOR!

  7. Sort of, I played most of the games and watched the movies and animated series, but I’m not really an achieved expert. But I will after some months on TOR like I was with Warcraft’s lore after playing wow.

  8. I don’t know a lot. But I am reading the articles by Joshrooms. I have also started reading more books. Like “Decieved,” and “Fatal Alliance”. The thing is I am doing this for me not anyone else. I want to know what is going on and why. It is for my enjoyment, not anyone elses. I don’t want someone to tell me how to play so I will do the same for them. If someone wants the info and I have it I will share. But I will most likely ask Joshrooms first.
