Blue Milk & Cereal: Have You Stuck To Your Guns (Or Lightsaber)?

No day would be complete without the breakfast of Jedi: Blue Milk & Cereal.  Every morning, the team at Ask A Jedi will get Force-induced thoughts coursing through your head with delicious issues from around the galaxy! Join in the discussion below to make your voice heard!

When Star Wars: The Old Republic was first announced, and you made the decision that you wanted to play, one of the first questions that had to be answered was, “What class should I play?”

There are some of us who need time to make the final decision, perhaps not knowing until the TOR is out and we’re sitting in front of the character creator. Players now had the chance to play classes that resemble characters we’ve come to know and love. Either way, it became a difficult decision.

However, there were some of us, like me, who knew from the get go what we intended to play. Enter the Sith Inquisitor. Being cunning, manipulative, and giving me the ability to shoot lightning was all I needed. I was hooked the moment I read about the class. It all seemed very Sith-like to me. I knew right away I was going to be a Sith. No offense to those of the Republic, but they just seemed to be too good.

Now don’t get me wrong. I wavered on my choice for awhile. Although I always knew I was going to be Empire, I was thinking of setting down a lightsaber for a pistol.

For a brief moment, I thought of Boba Fett and becoming a Bounty Hunter, who only wants to get the job done. I even flirted with the idea of being an Imperial Agent, reminiscent of Thrawn (I’d recommend picking up the trilogy if you are unaware of the name).

But when all was said and done, I could not lay down the neopixel lightsaber. In a way I was asking myself, “Do you really want to do this?” The answer, clearly, was no. Although I’m intending to play each class over the life of TOR and I’ll have a full character selection screen,  my first character will be my first choice.

What about you? Have you stuck to your guns, or lightsaber? Or has one of the other classes caught your eye?

Have you changed the class you first wanted to play since learning of TOR?

  1. Nope, same class i did change my AC from Marauder to Juggernaut though :)

  2. Bounty Hunter since the beginning. I have been following this since 06 and have always stuck with BH. I am sick and tired of swinging a sword. I want a blaster(disappointed that I can’t use a carbine)and to blow things up with grenades. THen you add death from above to that and you have a big helping of awesomeness.

  3. Until I try each class I won’t know for sure what I like the most. No matter what I choose it will be DPS though.

I really want to be an Imperial Agent or Bounty Hunter, but I have to admit it’s hard to resist the lure of the Force and lightsaber.

  4. Are you talking base class or advanced class?

    • Only on the 8 base classes. The Advanced Classes just come down to if you want to tank, heal, or be a dps. The base classes, completely change the game for you, from the story side.

  5. I was always going to be a Sith IQ but I could never decide on what role I preferred for the class until they announced that they made one of the Assassin trees a tanking tree. Then it was a no brainier and I have not looked back since. I have flipped flopped on Darkside/Lightside tho several times.

  6. No, but my secondary class choice has changed ALLOT.

  7. I firstly wanted to be Imperial Agent. But then Inquisitor got announced, so my choice changed.. Despite it being the most popular choice I am still going Inq first, and secondly Agent.

  8. I will play through every class at least once, to get the full experience. I knew that I would start off on the side of the Republic and had decided on Jedi Knight as my first class. I still want to play the class, very much. I mean, who wants to play Star Wars and NOT be a Jedi?? But I have since decided that my first class is going to be a Trooper. I love the idea of raining death down upon the Sith Empire. But there is also another class that has caught my eye… We’ll have to wait and see if my Space Cowboy is first on the scene when TOR launches.

  9. I originally wanted to go S.I but the class seems to be less about Melee and far too much about lightning. It has gone into the cheesy ways of being attractive to younger players rather than a more subtle force based variation of the Warrior class.

  10. Well I am not sure what I wanna be. I tried a few out on the origin worlds and liked them all. I initially wanted to be a Consular or Inquisitor, depending on which side my friends choose to play on. But the blaster classes are a lot of fun. It will be a last minute choice for me at this point.

  11. For me, I’ve always wanted to be the Jedi Consular. But when I heard they were getting the ability to tank, my mind did flips and loops of joy. As a result I did change my AC choice.

I’ve always been the caster type. So when I heard that my caster will have the ability to tank if I go down that route instead, I felt like someone had been listening to my ideal character design.

Lightly armored, lightsaber weilding, force enhanced character who protects allies by becoming the focus of the enemy’s attention. Yes please!

I’ll be playing a Jedi Shadow spec’d in Kinetic Combat on day one. (If I can make it far enough on the first day to make that AC choice of course. *laughs*)

But like several others, I do plan on playing all base classes eventually. The draw of playing a BioWare story is just too great.

  12. Funny thing is that I haven’t changed what class I want my main to be (Jedi Consular), but I decided to play my main second rather than first.

    Reasons:
    1. I’ll have a better understanding of crew skill benefits
    2. Speculation on having a unique legacy character

  13. I decided on a Bounty Hunter as my Good side Main and Smuggler as my evil side Main.

Although both are based on factions they are the only classes that could be considered neutral even thought neutral does not exist in game.

    • Yeah BH should have been a Imperial Trooper and the smuggler could have been a Republic scout or something.

It would have been cool for them to release the smuggler and / or the bounty hunter as expansion(s) and allowed you to play either faction with them…. too bad they went with the “stuff iconic classes down your throat” route… would have been amazing as expansions.

Instead of releasing two classes per exp they could have just had smuggler allowed to pick faction at character creation and just had a unique story per faction.

  14. I originally wanted to play a Vanguard. But due to guild reasons I have changed my main to a Guardian. I originally wanted to play the JK as much as I wanted to play the trooper so it had nothing to do with released content.

  15. ScytheNoire says:

If you haven’t played the Beta, then you can’t really honestly answer this. From my weekend Beta, I will definitely say that things changed and fell in love with other classes.

  16. Lord-Maknoe says:

I did go through several internal debates in my mind. But in the end, I’m still what I originally was :)

  17. I have changed mi mind several times. I am sure a lot of people will change their minds once they play as well.

  18. When most people think of Star Wars the first thing that comes to mind is the lightsaber. I wanted to play with a laser sword so bad but there was only one problem with going down that road… My backpack won’t have jets! Bounty Hunter all the way from day 1 of me finding out they were a playable class. I am also about 90% sure i will be armored to the teeth. Ranged tank FTW.
