Analyst Predicts Sales Of 2 Million Units At Launch For The Old Republic

Familiar industry analyst Michael Pachter with Wedbush Securities yesterday issued an investor note indicating he estimates that he expects Star Wars: The Old Republic to sell 2 million copies of the game at launch, with 1.5 million players hanging around beyond the traditionally included free month:

Pachter also weighed in on EA’s Star Wars: The Old Republic massively multiplayer online game. The analyst expects it will sell 2 million copies at launch, with 1.5 million of purchasers sticking around beyond a free one-month trial period. Earlier this year, Riccitiello told investors that the game could beĀ “substantially profitable” with just 500,000 subscribers, with anything above 1 million monthly users making the game “very profitable.”

  1. it must be nice to get paid for opinions. Without feedback from a wide release beta all there is to make these predictions is fan interactions, responses to the small amount of release videos, and a limited beta group. I think it could have a wider impact if the timing of the release can correspond to the market spaces free time.

Welcome to WallStreet! That is all they do is guess with everything and our money.

They have people watching Bioware and EA very close and if something screws up, like a multi-million dollar game not launching in a certain part of the year. You bet your ass they are going to down rank that stock because they cannot take the risk.

  2. Is that just US sales?
