Friday Update: E3 Announcement + Fan Friday + Studio Insider: Environments

Despite Rebecca Black’s best efforts, Friday still ranks pretty high for fans of The Old Republic! And BioWare made this Friday a little better by releasing a brand new Studio Insider and Fan Friday! Not to mention, the announcement that TOR will in fact make an appearance at E3!

First off, Senior Environment Artist Robby Lamb walks us through the “polish” process for environments:

Polish is an important part of making a game, but it’s especially important for an MMO. It can happen at any stage of development, and it allows us to take a great game and make it exceptional.

Robby does an exceptional and lengthy writeup on the process, and if you enjoy a peek behind the curtain, this is a must-read!

Also as part of the Studio Insider is this month’s Community Q&A segment. This month’s theme is all about classes and their roles, and dovetails nicely with last week’s Advance Class update from Georg Zoeller.

The other half of the update was a Fan Friday.

As a featured part of this Fan Friday, the awesome ladies over at Corellian Run Radio are profiled in this month’s Fan Site Spotlight. If you aren’t listening to their podcast regularly, you should!

BioWare also gave us new smilies and new forum avatars.

And as with most Fan Fridays, we also get two brand new polls:

Interestingly, the poll question about the species lists just the 8 publicly known (and no Cyborg.) Can this represent the complete list for launch? Or is it just “so far?”

A new Community Q&A Thread has also been created, this time with a focus on the Art of The Old Republic. Would make a nice lead-up to the announcement of The Art And Making Of Star Wars: The Old Republic, if true!

Also of note, if  you’re currently running or looking to put together a fan site for The Old Republic, the available kit has been updated. It appears to contain a starships directory, as well as updated list of planets and associated assets.

Until next week!
