The Tech Side of The Force: Interview with Bill Dalton and Matt Shaw

The folks over at PC Games Hardware sat down with Bill Dalton, Studio Technical Director and Matt Shaw, Chief Technology Officer, both of BioWare to discuss some of the technical capabilities and decisions that have gone into the development of The Old Republic.

They touch on modification of the HeroEngine, techniques being used to get the most out of gamers’ systems, and more.

PCGH: We know you utilized Simutronics Corporation “Hero”-Engine. Did you rework or enhance this engine for SWTOR?

Bioware: HeroEngine provides an excellent platform upon which to prototype our game. During the course of development we have modified HeroEngine as required to support the broad feature set of the game we have undertaken, and to scale to the level of usage we hope to achieve.

Definitely a good read, and you can check out the entire interview here.
